City Connect Detroit's Guiding Principles

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
- Aristotle

City Connect Detroit relies on the following philosophies to help shape its engagement of those who share in our work. Developed with, and approved by, our Board of Directors, these principles speak to values, commitments and expectations that must be adhered to in order to fulfill the organization’s mission:

  • City Connect Detroit listens, hears and communicates with its constituencies on an on-going basis.
  • Key to City Connect Detroit’s success is an understanding of systemic issues - community needs, their causes and the populations affected; best practices for remedies to social problems, key actors and/or stakeholders. We also know community dynamics, and the roles of key actor and/or stakeholders.
  • City Connect Detroit embraces new relationships, as well as co- and interdependence among community institutions.
  • City Connect Detroit is inclusive in its community problem solving and resource development activities.
  • City Connect Detroit values and promotes diversity.
  • City Connect Detroit combines state-of-the-art technology with traditional person-to-person interaction to build relationships, research, acquire and share information about national funding opportunities; and exchange knowledge and skills.
  • City Connect Detroit learns how to win national and state funds, build and sustain meaningful collaborative efforts. And what we learn, we teach.
  • City Connect Detroit is a role model for successful cross-sector collaboration.
  • City Connect Detroit keeps its promises.
  • City Connect Detroit gives credit away to the collective efforts of others.
  • City Connect Detroit celebrates and places value on lessons learned.
