Photo of Heather Hurley Heather Hurley began her tenure at City Connect Detroit as an intern in September 2006. She first learned of City Connect Detroit from a professor, Ed Egnatios, who encouraged her to consider City Connect Detroit for her community practice internship. Now working as a consultant, Heather utilizes her social work and English background on a daily basis working on City Connect Detroit’s portfolio of collaboratives. Heather lends her business savvy and grant writing skills to the African American Business Alliance, Food and Fitness Collaborative, the Wayne County Partnership and the Growing Well Collaborative.

Originally from Taylor, Michigan, Heather attended Wayne State University earning her Bachelors in Political Science and English. She is currently a graduate student at Wayne State University’s School of Social Work, working towards her Masters in Social Work in Community Practice. Heather loves the work she is doing at City Connect Detroit because it joins two of her loves: community practice social work and the City of Detroit.

In the past, Heather has worked as a program coordinator and counselor with the Children’s International Summer Villages, creating month long programs for local children to travel to countries around the world allowing them to understand the similarities and differences between cultures.

Heather, a new homeowner in Detroit, has been active with the National Association of Social Workers as well as a tutor at the Dominican Literacy Center. She loves reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
