Laurie Ryan
Vice President & Senior Consultant
Tel: 313-963-9813
Laurie Ryan, Vice President, is a mastermind behind strategic planning, project design and fund development for City Connect Detroit. Formerly a Senior Consultant with the organization, Laurie has been with City Connect Detroit since 2002. Laurie has worked on a variety of strategic planning projects and in a project management capacity, and is known for her infamous resource development work, including designing programs and writing winning grant proposals. In her current role, Laurie works intimately with City Connect Detroit’s portfolio of collaboratives, including management and strategic leadership, upholding the high standard of work that has become a hallmark at City Connect Detroit.
Prior to coming on board with City Connect Detroit, Laurie worked within the United Way system for 15 years, the last 11 of which were spent as a Senior Executive at United Way of America, a leadership and training organization for local United Way organizations. In this role, she led a team that was responsible for national initiatives, outcome measurement, research, community building, and national grants. Prior to United Way she worked on projects with the Detroit Police Department, Congressman John Conyers’ office and the American Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan.
Laurie grew up in southeast Michigan, having moved here at the age of 13. Although Laurie has lived, traveled and worked across the country, she proclaims she has never met people that were so brilliant, dedicated, committed and wonderful to work with as those she works with in Detroit.
Laurie has a Bachelor degree in Communications from Wayne State University and her Master of Social Work in Community Organization from the University of Michigan. When she isn’t working fastidiously on a grant proposal, or applying her magic and wisdom to City Connect Detroit’s collaborative arrangements, Laurie is deeply involved as the parent of two teenagers. She volunteers with several community, school, and church projects and spends as much time as humanly possible gardening, which is evident when she graces the City Connect Detroit offices with her gorgeous Hydrangea and other blossoms.
