Marcia P. Horngren has been with the City Connect Detroit team since March, 2004. Brought on as a development consultant, Marcia brings with her over twenty years of fund development experience in her repertoire.
In her current and past work at City Connect Detroit, Marcia has done development work in various facets. After recently working on piloting a sponsorship program at City Connect Detroit, Marcia is working closely with Geneva J. Williams, and is intimately involved in statistics, proposals and building relationships, approaching fund development the “City Connect Detroit way”.
Having a long history of work in fund development, Marcia was Vice President of Fund Distribution at United Way before joining City Connect Detroit. Prior to her work at United Way, Marcia worked in fund development for the American Cancer Society.
Originally hailing from the suburbs of Milwaukee, Marcia attended the University of Wisconsin and received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Marcia was also selected to be one of the first students with the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee’s newly inaugurated Sociology Masters Program. Marcia has also earned Masters’ credits at Wayne State University. Always seeking growth and enrichment, she is currently taking art history and literature courses at University of Michigan – Dearborn and loves hearing the perspective of her fellow classmates and engaging dialogue around literature penned by women authors.
Having lived much of her adult life in and around Detroit, Marcia is excited about what is happening in Detroit: the revitalization and growth and is looking forward to what comes of this time of hope and optimism.
An avid gardener, she volunteers her time to gardening and landscaping the grounds of her condominium, giving her a blank canvas to enjoy one of her most favorite hobbies. Marcia is also an enthusiastic bicycler, and recently rode all over the island of Manhattan and along the Hudson River in New York. Devoted to culture and fine arts, Marcia loves going to the theater, museums, and dancing. Marcia’s greatest joy comes from her two granddaughters, and she loves watching them as they bloom into beautiful young women.
