Intern
Tel: 313-963-9722
Marleen Miazga, Intern, has been interning with City Connect Detroit since September, 2007. A student at Wayne State University, Marleen first learned of City Connect Detroit through classmate and City Connect Detroit team member, Heather Hurley. Because of her stated interest in grant writing, Wayne State University’s internship program placed her with City Connect Detroit. Since her start in the fall, Marleen has worked extensively with the Detroit Positive Youth Development (DPYD) Collaborative. As part of the DPYD Collaborative Marleen’s work focuses on the Detroit Out-of-School Youth Initiative, allowing her to work closely with both in-school and out-of-school youth, a population that is of great interest to her.
In addition to her internship, Marleen is a part time probation officer in the city of Grosse Pointe, working with adult misdemeanors, and has been a probation officer since 2002. In her previous internship, Marleen worked in the office of Congressman Sandy Levin doing constituent case work, included work on social security cases, veteran cases, immigration, and friend of the court cases.
Marleen is currently a student in Wayne State University’s Master of Social Work program, studying policy and communities as part of the Community Practice and Social Action program. She also earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Wayne State University.
Very active in her community, Marleen has been a Girl Scout leader for over five years to Troop 740 within the Macomb Otsikita Council, and has been active with M.A.D.D., Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She is also affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Michigan Association of District Court Probation Officers, the Batterer Intervention Coalition of Michigan, and the National Association of Social Workers. Marleen, one of many sisters, loves doing anything outdoors including hiking and bike riding. She lives in Warren with her husband, two daughters and has another little one on the way.
