Pat Williams-Taitt, affectionately known as PWT, is City Connect Detroit’s Marketing and Communications Officer. With over 20 years of experience in the marketing, public relations and communications field, Pat’s expertise is making people aware of the strength that City Connect Detroit brings to metropolitan Detroit. On board since 2004, Pat identifies strategic public relations and marketing opportunities for the organization and its collaboratives. This includes coordinating public awareness events that promote City Connect Detroit, as well as the organization’s internal events. Her media finesse, adept strategic planning and positioning has given City Connect Detroit a reputation for amazing, must-attend events, and helps draw local and national attention to the organization’s work.
Before working at City Connect Detroit, Pat enjoyed a fruitful career with United Way as Director of Specialty Markets and Advertising.
In this role, she was responsible for major leadership gifts from affluent individuals in metropolitan Detroit. Pat was also responsible for the innovative special events United Way held, identifying key national speakers and increasing contributions from major interest groups.
Pat has enjoyed a successful marketing and communications career in Detroit, a city that she says has been great for her career, presenting many opportunities for personal and professional growth. Throughout her career, Pat has worked intimately with Detroit’s past three mayors, organized celebrity performances, and arranged press conferences and public service announcements with some of sports’, pop culture’s and government’s biggest names, including Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Barry Sanders, General Colin Powell, Robert Porcher and former President Bill Clinton. Her experience with President Clinton is one that she is most proud of, having presided over the then current President’s entire press junket for the NAACP’s Freedom Fund Dinner, an event that remains in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest sit down dinner.
Pat’s work in media, advertising, and in the community has earned her numerous awards and accolades, including over twelve awards for her leadership in print and video campaigns at United Way. Her print design leadership has been featured in national publications, including Fortune 500 and Oprah’s O Magazine. A servant of her community as well, Pat is a past executive board member of the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP and past member of the board of trustees for the American Cancer Society. She is also affiliated with the Adcraft Club of Detroit and Wayne State University’s Alumni Board where she earned her undergraduate degree in Education and completed graduate studies in Administration.
An avid Salsa dancer, Pat loves working out five to six times a week and has recently taken up gardening. Often seen around the office with her ipod and headphones, Pat loves all types of music. While considering herself in semi-retirement, Pat doesn’t hesitate to express loving the chance and opportunity to show and tell the many sides of City Connect Detroit in new and creative ways. Pat travels the globe in her spare time.
